Dating Apps

22/December/2025 in Tokyo

I was never an active user of dating apps

But one thing was always clear to me;

"I can't see a woman from dating apps as a candidate for a serious relationship partner"

Nothing to do with her

It comes entirely from my rather romantic idea about one specific point;

"How we met"

To me,
meeting through online dating feels "Lacking a story" & "Lacking a reason"

First, "Lacking a story"

"How we met" is the starting point of a relationship, and
it is a point we always return to

And I want a "Story" there

"He liked my photo first" or "She sent me a meme first" etc.........

.......all these petty things caused by equally petty actions — just moving one’s fingers left & right at home

I don't consider these a "Story"

For a "Story",
much more physical involvement — physical involvement into the world — must exist

And this leads to the second point; "Lacking a reason"

Encountering someone in real life is entirely by chance

To meet, we have to be in a certain place at a certain moment

"Because I was there at that time, I could meet her/him........"

This almost destiny-like sense — this awe-evoking experience — is what I call "the reason"

At the end of the day,
there is no inherent reason for anything in my life

I don't have to live
I can die now

But that's why,
I want reasons
I crave "absolute" reasons

This is obviously not just about the dating context. Much broader

"Reasons" are not given. It has to be created on my own

I want stories. I want reasons.
