The Scent of The End

Dating with a woman

Going good, going bad, whatever

But when this notion comes;

".......Ah, that’s why her ex-boyfriend(s) broke up with her"

I take this as a sign, telling me;

"This relationship between me & this woman is going to end in the future. Or very soon"

Usually I know the basic information about her past relationships

Why it ended & Who ended

And of course, I'm on her side

Because I like her, almost idealise her, therefore can’t quite believe there was ever a man who wanted to leave her

In other words
I see her ex as rival, or even enemy

Typical competitive sentiment

But, as time goes by
I get to know her more
see her "issues", her human flaws
which I too have (much more than she does, likely)

And one day I sense this scent from somewhere;

".......Ah, that’s why her ex-boyfriend(s) broke up with her"

And I take this as a sign — "This relationship is going to end"

When that notion hits me, it always feels strange

Because it is when I realise
my position has changed completely

At the start of the relationship —
her ex was on the other side of the river
And she & I observe him from a distance

But now —
he & I are on the same side of the river
And I see her from the almost same standpoint as his

This morbid shift always brings another morbid prediction — "This relationship is going to end"

(*Not to mention, my past relationships didn't end only because of "issues" from women's side. "Issues", "Problems", "Quirks" from my sides were much more plenty, rich and endless, probably. Endings always involve multiple causes. Now I'm writing just my subjective view & the strange recognition that turns enemy into ally)
