May 8; Victory Day

9/May/2025 in Tokyo

Reading a newspaper this morning

One article reported a ceremony in Europe;

"Europe Marks 80 Years Since World War 2"

This is something I’ve never asked anyone in Europe

but I’ve sometimes wondered;

how conscious people are of this date — May 8

In Japan,
the equivalent date is August 15

1945, August 15 was the day Japan finally accepted defeat

Every year,
there is a ceremony held in the heart of Tokyo

And every year,
it is broadcast nationwide in the morning

August 15 falls in the middle of summer vacation

Every year in my childhood,
I watched it without really understanding

And every year in recent years,
August 15 brings a certain feeling —

about Japan, about an era, about myself whose life has been still influenced by 1945, August 15

(*War occurs to end the previous regime and start a new one. 1945, August 15 brought a new system to Japan, and it is still ongoing.My entire life has been entirely built upon this regime — it shapes the reality I live in now, and my life will continue within this framework, for the foreseeable future. And I am not particularly against it)
