Arty-looking Starbucks barista
5/June/2026
In winter 2024 in Krakow
A German boy asked me;
"Btw, how old are you?"
I gave him my usual answer
"Take a guess" and smile
He took a few guesses
All of them were younger than my actual age
I asked what the clue was
"Your hands", he said
"Hands often tell their age more than their face"
Today I went to a cafe
An arty-looking female barista served me
She didn’t impress me other than her arty look
I was subconsciously wondering if
she was a student or a worker
Or simply, how old she was
She was wearing a sleeveless top
Her bare arms were exposed
I was taking glances at her arms
Skin colours often attract my attention
Skin colour is the source of many "difficult things" in this world
Human beings keep judging other human beings by their skin colours
I am constantly judged through my skin colour while I am outside this island
And I am constantly judging other human beings by their skin colours
I paid particular attention to her skin
in order to estimate her age
I still don’t know her age
And will never know it anyway
But her arms told me she was not a student
And what?
What does it mean?
Nothing to fuss about
