Too Much Emotions

In a small cafe

A guy sitting alone

Two cups of coffee in front of him

5 min passed

10 min passed

20 min passed

Still two drinks in front of him and he didn't drink either

He even looked somewhat stressed

I started wondering why

A woman came into the cafe

Walked straight to him

He stood up and they hugged

This was when I realised
he was waiting for her

"Maybe his friend?"

But they hugged for a really long time

As it got longer,
my guess changed from "his friend" to "his girlfriend"

When their bodies were finally separated,
at least 2 minutes had already passed

And I noticed there was some, a very tiny discomfort in me

I thought this was exactly a culture that I haven't (probably will never) get used to, as a Japanese

To my eyes, to my Japanese eyes,
it all looked "Too much"

Too expressive
Too excessive
Too exaggerated

Too much emotion for a cafe, for a public space
