7/July/2024 in Tallinn
This is my first visit to Estonia
And the very first thing I noticed was
high price
due to a horrendous exchange rate
from a record-low Japanese currency
This high price & overall "seemingly" high quality of life here brought me one notion;
"Estonia is Northern Europe"
Yet,
this conflicts with my internal, my subjective, my delusional perceptions on this country
"Estonia is Northern Europe"
This view isn't my own
Also it's not new
More people stated like this
But for me,
Estonia is "the Baltic state" in the first place
And "the Baltic states" is,
"Eastern Europe"
I got an interest in Estonia
precisely because it's categorised as Eastern Europe
If I'd heard "Estonia is Northern Europe",
then I would have never ever had any interest in this country
Because I'm not attracted to this word, "Northern Europe"
Because my life has been dragged by images around this word, "Eastern Europe"
That lonely, that sad, that decadent, that sentimental, that melancholic image.........
