An Outsider Japan

I often feel some slight embarrassment, when exchanging words with local person in Kyoto, in a restaurants/cafes/shops/street

Because it is when they immediately realise I'm not a local but a tourist, due to my standard Tokyo accent

Being a tourist often feels slightly embarrassing

It is a guest who is not invited
It is an outsider who is not assimilated

On a surface level, I can hide this fact, because I look a native person in this country

But once I open my mouth, the fact that I'm an outsider is exposed
