Familiarity breeds contempt

"Familiarity breeds contempt"

is

obviously one of my favourite phrases in English

I firstly heard of it from
some English gentleman's speech

The reason the phrase got my attention

was, probably

this slightly peculiar word choice

It looks like
an non-native person directly translated from his own language

In particular, this verb

"breeds"

If it'd been "produces" or "brings", then
this phrase must've lost most of its strange charm & attraction
